Dawid Scumwalski It took me approximately 17 years to learn to appreciate City of Worms and Jeph Jerman. I first learned about that project back in 2006 from the Encyclopaedia of Industrial Music (auth. Rafał Kochan). At the time, I had no clue what was there to appreciate. Needless to say, now I am a dedicated fan and listen to this specific project religiously. That is also why I decided to name my and my partner's upcoming label Haus of Sleep (upon Jeph's permission).

about

geistig is City of Worms’ fourth release.

For these sessions, the methods employed on our first 3 releases were continued. That is, improvisation using Casio SK-1s and cassette tapes manipulated in realtime using handheld tape recorders, through cheap mixers and guitar effects, into guitar amps. Audio materials were sourced individually without prior agreement and were revealed during the course of the improvisation. When not free improvising, our improvisations were to/against backing tracks, that were individually created and revealed/asserted during the course of the session. Sometimes they would take hold, other times not so much.

This recording is released as three sides, as this reflects the session tape for the 3/6 session and the 3/13 session.

about

CITY OF WORMS Colorado Springs, Colorado

City Of Worms formed in late Fall of 1986. The founding members were Jeph Jerman, Steve Beckner and George Ericson. Methods were improvised regurgitations of our environment (both mediated and IRL)... press record, review, repeat. Tools included SK-1 samplers, handheld cassette decks, pedal effects, guitar amps and minimal technical expertise. Forward 3 years and over 20 releases. ... more
